Dental IMPLANT
Dental implant is a type of fixed prosthesis made to replace missing teeth.
It involves the placement of a titanium screw into the bone to support the crown.
It can be done for a single missing tooth or multiple teeth.
The process of placing an implant is as follow:
The titanium implant is inserted into the bone through a surgical procedure and wound is sutured.
It takes around 3-6 months for the bone to fully heal and secure the implant in place.
After 3-6 months, if the implant has successfully integrated with the bone, an abutment is placed.
This abutment will be the supporting structure for the future crown.
Impression is taken and sent to the lab for crown fabrication. After 2 weeks the crown will be ready to be cemented/ screwed onto the supporting implant abutment.
Implant should be taken care of like a natural tooth. It should be flossed and brushed like usual to prevent gum disease and peri-implantitis that can lead to implant failure and bone loss around the tooth.
